“Right now I’m producing the Eire Apparent, which is a hard rock Irish group. They do more of a tinge of folk in it, but like Irish folk.”

1966.
🎸 London, Greek Street - Rehearsals
The venue for this rehearsal is unconfirmed, but it was definitely in a club, possibly “Les Cousins” (on number 49), “Zebra Club” (number 18), or “The Kilt Club” (number unknown).

1967.
🎸 London
↪ Dunstable, California Ballroom, Whipsnade Road, Bedfordshire, England, JHE
Concert (50 minutes between 20.00 and 24.00).
Support: Modes Mode; Canal Street Philharmonic.
Noel: "We were done by 11:00 pm. so I nipped back to London, picked up Chas and headed for the studio."
“A much bigger problem was boredom. Since we could no longer go out and cool off between shows, we had no option but to sit around in dressing rooms with nothing to do but get smashed. In Dunstable, you weren’t even allowed to drink. Just what was one supposed to do, sitting on a wooden bench breathing the stale air in an eight-by-ten- foot windowless box with wall-to-wall hangers-on? You might have one horrid toilet and/or basin with a cold tap (dripping). You’d certainly have peeling paint speckled with graffiti and who knows what else, cracked concrete floors with antique cigarette butts, and a ceiling cascading with condensation.”

↪ "Olympic Sound Studios"
Studio recordings (until 06.30 the next morning) for "Spanish Castle Magic" and "Little Wing".

1968.
🎸 Los Angeles, TTG Studios, 1441 North McCadden Place, Hollywood, CA
*Noel: “Recording. Jimi meets some more phantom robbers and losses two of his guitars. So here's some bad vibes to you on Jimi's behalf."

John Carpenter (columnist): “Jimi Hendrix is in town recording! Monday night someone stole two guitars from his station wagon parked outside; later on others stole two more from his Benedict Canyon digs. One of the guitars was especially made, had a great deal of sentimental value, and was worth a lot to him. No questions asked if you can get them to he who uses them so well. Please contact me at the Free Press if you know what's happening"

🍯 ★ London SW13, "Olympic Sound Studios" -
Studio recordings for "Castles Made Of Sand, "EXP", and "Spanish Castle Magic".

Jimi: “On ‘Spanish Castle Magic’ we used a guitar, bass, and drums and piano and a lot of things are in unison. Noel uses an eight-string bass plus I was playing the same thing on guitar. It didn’t come out as clear as we wanted but it was a hint of what we’re trying to do.”

Noel: Recording – night session. Used Haagstrom 8-string

1968.
🍯 TTG Studios, Hollywood, California, USA.
Producer: Jimi Hendrix
Engineer: Angel Balastier
JHE & Lee Michaels – acoustic piano: ‘Jam session’

Angel Balastier (TTG engineer): “Lee Michaels had been recording upstairs when he found out Hendrix was going to be working downstairs. I admitted that he was, but I told him that I was supposed to keep it quiet. Lee laughed and said he was going to come down anyway, so we moved his B3 organ into studio B.”

🍓 London
↪ "Regent Sounds". Rehearsals of tracks for the upcoming Olympic studio sessions for Axis: Bold As Love.

Noel: "Thrown out after two songs for being too loud!"

James Baring (owner of Regent Sound): "Jimi was a lovely guy, but loud as you know, and he was the only guy that in the middle of the session a guy came round from next door at the Labour Exchange, and said: 'Guys, we can't actually carry on work at the Labour Exchange because we can't hear ourselves speak.'
"And it was a fact that Jimi was so loud that not only could they hear him in the Labour Exchange next door, but us in the control room had difficulty in distinguishing what came through the wall, and what came out of the speakers - so it was in fact [laughs] quite difficult to balance him.... So Jimi was very kind and very nice, and he said 'Okay guys, we've had a good rehearsal, we'd better find somewhere else to make our noise' and that was [laughs] it."

↪ "Olympic Sound Studios"
Studio recordings for "Wait Until Tomorrow" and "Ain't No Telling".
Noel: "Did 2 songs, also some vocals."

↪ Broadcast in Top Gear of the recordings from 17-10-1967.

Jack Bruce
(14 May 1943 – 25 October 2014)
We were playing Regents Polytechnic, just having a pre-gig pint in a pub across the road and in comes this guy who turns out to be Jimi Hendrix. Now, we had already heard about Jimi on the grapevine.

Jimi came up to me and said: “Hi. I would like to sit in with the band.” I said it was fine with me but he’d obviously have to check it out with Eric and Ginger. So we went across to the gig, and Eric immediately said yes and Ginger said: “Oh, dunno about that” [laughs]. So he came on and plugged into my bass amp, and as far as I can remember he just blew us all away.
