🍒 London at “Aberbach House”; JHE rehearsals (13.00/about 17.30). Noel went to the practice rooms and found out Mitch Mitchell had definitely joined the band.
↪ Chas gave the group 30 watt Burns amps, but they attempt to wreck the gear in order to obtain better amps. They tried throwing them down the stair flights, but they still worked, in the end they had to have them stolen in order for Chas to replace them. This was at the publishing house venue, on the 5th floor.
Noel: “It was in a rehearsal room in the Aberbach Publishing House. And Jimi and Mitch kicked them about. I was horrified because gear was hard to come by. Burns had given the gear to us.”
Mitch: “Some of the rehearsals took place in the offices of a music publisher in Savile Row or Albemarle Street - a real straight music publisher.”

Chas: “Burning Of The Midnight Lamp’ had begun as a demo at Olympic. We intended to record it there, but Jimi found the solution to the song in America and we decided to just do it there. We were still trying to make commercial singles, but we always tried to feature a shift in our sound. We had used female vocalists before with ‘Hey Joe’ and it seemed appropriate that we feature them again. The Sweet Inspirations were a natural fit.”
Jimi: "I wrote part of the song on a plane between LA and New York and finished it in the studios in America. There are some very personal things in there, but I think everyone can understand the feeling when you're travelling that no matter what your address there is no place you can call home. Loads of photos in the Abbey. Did the gig, went down a bomb. Gerry drove home. Went to Blaises with Jimi. Saw Mick Avery (drummer of the Kinks) and Terry Doran (personal chauffeur of George Harrison). After the gig we went almost straight back to London. Went to bed about 3:30."
