🍓 London, home of Bruce Fleming, 38 Grays Inn Road - Jimi spends Christmas with Bruce Fleming and friends.

Bruce Fleming: “I had asked Jimi ‘What are you doing for Christmas, are you going back to the States?’ Jimi said, ‘No, I sort of don’t know what to do.’ And it occurred to us that the silly thing was... I mean nobody invited Jimi for Christmas... We got to talk about architecture, painting, all sorts. He was into everything, especially the arts. Yeah, so we just had a brilliant time, and a lot of laughs... with turkey, the whole thing... He stayed over night. He was very radical in his opinions and his ideas: a very original thinker, very laid back, very quiet, very funny. He had a beautiful sense of humor."

↪ "Palace Theatre", Oxford Road, Manchester, Lancashire
Concert (two shows - 18.00 and 20.25).
Accommodation: "Excelsior Hotel", Withenshaw, Manchester, Lancashire.

Noel: “In Manchester we got stoned in the afternoon and nearly got thrown out of the hotel. In Manchester, a thin three-fan welcoming committee presented me the gift of ‘Please’ written 5,000 times. These days the bands weren’t the only ones sniffing pure methedrine crystal and living off a rainbow of diet pills.”

Chris Liston (fan): “I think one of the best gigs I saw in Manchester was Jimi Hendrix at the Palace. As I remember he stayed on stage longer that the theatre wanted him to, in the end they unplugged him.”

1967.
🍓 London
↪ "Regent Sounds". Rehearsals of tracks for the upcoming Olympic studio sessions for Axis: Bold As Love.

Noel: "Thrown out after two songs for being too loud!"

James Baring (owner of Regent Sound): "Jimi was a lovely guy, but loud as you know, and he was the only guy that in the middle of the session a guy came round from next door at the Labour Exchange, and said: 'Guys, we can't actually carry on work at the Labour Exchange because we can't hear ourselves speak.'
"And it was a fact that Jimi was so loud that not only could they hear him in the Labour Exchange next door, but us in the control room had difficulty in distinguishing what came through the wall, and what came out of the speakers - so it was in fact [laughs] quite difficult to balance him.... So Jimi was very kind and very nice, and he said 'Okay guys, we've had a good rehearsal, we'd better find somewhere else to make our noise' and that was [laughs] it."

↪ "Olympic Sound Studios"
Studio recordings for "Wait Until Tomorrow" and "Ain't No Telling".
Noel: "Did 2 songs, also some vocals."

↪ Broadcast in Top Gear of the recordings from 17-10-1967.

🍓 Jimi holds auditions at the Birdland, off Jermyn Street, Soho, London.
↪ Eric Burdon: “The first time I heard him play, I was in a rehearsal room putting together the New Animals, and this shadowy figure stepped into the room, and he just grabbed hold of Vic Briggs' guitar and in the same instant said, 'Do you mind if I have a jam?' you know, and cracked up into an uptempo blues jam with John Weider.”

↪ Note: an unlikely description by Burdon of this alleged Weider/Hendrix jam - only remembered by him. Vic Briggs later denied he was there, as he was still engaged with Brian Auger's band.
