1969. ๐ Back at the Record Plant several spirited recordings were put to tape this evening, including six takes of Buddy Miles signature track, “Them Changes” plus a dozen meandering takes of “Burning Desire.” Jimi was troubled by the tone of his guitar, resulting in few memorable highlights from the night’s session. Despite some technical problems the group continued recording, pressing through two takes of “Lover Man,” described here as “Here Comes Your Lover Man,” plus three lackluster renditions of “Hear My Train A Comin’.” Prior to the session collapsing, Jimi returned the group to “Burning Desire” and “Them Changes,” both of which were met with genuine disinterest.

๐ Gone to Rock ‘n’ Roll Heaven ♡ October 20, 1977. Following a performance at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in Greenville, South Carolina, the band Lynyrd Skynyrd boarded a chartered Convair CV-300 bound for Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where they were scheduled to appear at LSU the following night. Due to a faulty engine, the airplane ran low on fuel and the pilots were diverted to the McComb-Pike County Airport. After running out of fuel they attempted an emergency landing before crashing in a heavily forested area five miles northeast of Gillsburg, Mississippi. Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, along with backup singer Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray were killed on impact. ๐ 1968. A second showing of “Experience” is made at 6:15 p.m. at London’s National Film Theater. Supported by Soft Machine and Eire Apparent, the Experience perform two shows at the Mosque in Richmond, Virginia. Among the song performed were “I Don’t Live Today” and “Red House.” Jan Bridge interviews Jimi Hendrix for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

When the system is repaired Hendrix begins to work on a series of rough mixes for “Straight Ahead,” “Room Full Of Mirrors,” “Ezy Rider,” “In From The Storm,” “Drifting,” “Angel,” “Belly Button Window,” “Dolly Dagger,” and “Freedom.” French television broadcasts L’ Appiche De Monde: Festival Atlanta, which includes Jimi’s performance of “Stone Free” captured during the July 4th celebration in Georgia.

Mitch: 'The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice' was a deliberate joke, you know? STP and LSD. But it was just a filler, done in one take with the background vocals done by people in the studio. They were Jimi's old friends like Devon Wilson.

Although a rough mix would be prepared, it too would be quickly shelved. With “Lover Man” now on the shelf, Jimi turned his attention back to overdubs for “Angel”.

The Sun-Telegram ‘7300 Fans Set a New Attendance Record’ – review by Tom Green: “Jimi broke things up at San Bernardino’s Swing Auditorium on Saturday night - figuratively and literally. The thing that got broken most resoundingly was the Swing’s attendance record. Hendrix pulled in 7,300 music fans and that shattered the old mark of 7100 which belonged to Creedence Clearwater Revival. Of course a door got broken, too, because there were dozens more outside who couldn’t get in because of the sold-out sign. Police had to be called with tear gas to get those unhappy people dispersed. No problems were reported inside though. The show got going at about 8 p.m. and wound up at about 10:45 p.m., which was obviously a surprise to some fans who thought it would go on until midnight and arrived, therefore, after it was over. Hendrix is quite an entertainer. As simple as that. Roz Kelly: “They sent me to stake out the Drake Hotel, where Jimi Hendrix was thought to be staying. Rather than lurk around and wait for him to appear, I walked right in and knocked on his door. Hendrix groggily opened the door to let me in, then flopped back into bed. I shook him awake, and started taking pictures.
