🉑 Jimi appeared in court at 10 a.m. in defense of a drug possession charge made against him in May 1969. Under the jurisdiction of Judge Joseph Kelly, Jimi stood beside Defense Attorney John O’Driscoll and before twelve jury members. The first witness for the Crown was Customs Officer Marvin Wilson. It had been Wilson who stopped Jimi during a Customs check on May 3, 1969 as the guitarist tried to enter Canada to perform at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Wilson recounted his take of the situation, which was subsequently echoed his superior officer, a Customs Supervisor, as well as another Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. Jimi then took the stand next. The twenty-seven year old Seattle native proceeded to inform the court that he was entirely unaware of the drugs found in his travel bag. Jimi made clear his own experimentation with a variety of drugs in the past, but that in this instance, he had no idea that someone had packed drugs in his travel bag. Jimi claimed that the drugs were mistakenly packed in one of his travel bags along with a number of other gifts he had received from fans while attending a party in Hollywood.

🉑 Gerry Stickells joins the JHE as a roadie (actually, Gerry was planning to take up a job as a barman in Spain around this time, but changed his mind when he ran into Noel who told him that the group had no van to travel around in). The JHE (plus Chas Chandler and Gerry Stickells) fly from London to Munich, West Germany.

Finally, the JHE were support act to, according to Mitch:
“We supported some kind of a soul review and actually went down very well. It was only a small place, full of G.I.’s, but it was okay, a good gig.”

Noel: “…and the Harold Davidson Agency, a proper, respected booker, booked us into the Big Apple Club in Munich. A few weeks earlier knowing (hoping) we’d need a road manager, I’d sent Gerry Stickells, a drinking mate, into the office with orders to ‘hype’ his way in. I knew that nothing was more important than having a mechanic with the group. Vans are always breaking down. And he was a good driver which would be helpful on those long hauls. He was hired. What luxury!
Our standard two forty five minute shows per night drove the Munich crowd wild. To them, we were real freaks, perhaps the first Anglo-American group to play there.”

Ballad Of Jimmy Get That Feeling Gloomy Monday Happy Birthday Hush Now Love Love Before starting the recordings, we clearly hear Jimi indicate several times to Ed Chalpin (producer of PPX, Who is in the cabin) that he does not want his name to appear on these titles ... Before a take for Gloomy Monday that will eventually become You Can not Use My Name (bootleg)
Jimi: I ask you not to use my name on it ...
Ed: I will not use it, do not worry.
Jimi found this sound a bit light and outdated ... The Chitlin Circuit was already far in his head. This musical universe no longer corresponded at all to his current artistic projects.
During this second session Jimi played guitar, "sometimes lead and I played sometimes melody and twelve string, I think, sometimes".

Between 6 and 10 June the Jimi Hendrix Experience did several photo sessions with photographer Karl Ferris. It was impossible to determine which photo was taken on what day. But it was possible to divide the sets into 4 different dates.

During this session, Jimi and Chas had a falling out and Chas resigned as producer of Electric Ladyland. Jimi finished more takes of 1983 (A Mermaid I Should Turn To Be) and merged these takes with the April 22nd master to create the basic track used on Electric Ladyland.
