๐ธ 1967. Houston Studios, Los Angeles, California. The Experience are in the middle of their first U.S. tour. Before heading back to the east coast, they stop in and record an acetate of The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam’s Dice.
Noel: "Did new number, I played 12-string with wah-wah" Chas: “...Houston Studios. I had never recorded there myself. I booked three days there because I was told it was a state of the art studio. But it was dire. The place was like a rehearsal studio compared to Olympic. Los Angeles was so far behind at that time. I had spoken to Jimi about ideas for ‘Burning Of The Midnight Lamp’ up in San Francisco. One of the ideas we spoke about was using female voices again. I even lined up three girls from L.A. who had been groupies of the Animals to sing”.

๐ฏ 1967. ❇ Los Angeles - JHE attend a private viewing of the Monterey film ❇ Jamming at Steve Stills' house in Malibu. Stephen Stills: It was a pretty eclectic bunch—(South African trumpeter) Hugh Masekela, Buddy Miles and Bruce Palmer. Brucey was around my house all the time because he was the bass player in Buffalo Springfield, and Hughie would show up now and then. We went through two sets of players that night, me and Jimi, because we kept going. We played to one dawn, through the morning and next day, all the way into the next dawn.
Doug Hastings (Buffalo Springfield): I did a jam one afternoon at the Malibu house with Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles, David Crosby and Stephen Stills. I think Stephen played bass. It was the four of us playing in one part of the room, and Jimi playing about 15 feet away from us, off in a corner with his back to us. We probably played for a couple of hours. Buddy sang and Jimi sat, off in the corner, playing his wah-wah pedal.

The JHE and Gerry Stickells all got spiked with Owsley acid… Support: Ace of Cups (all girl band) Jimi plugged into Mary Ellen Simpson’s guitar amp. He was also seen taking pictures of them during their performance. Songs: unknown
Jimi: “I heard some groovy sounds last time in the States, like this girl group, Ace Of Cups, who write their own songs and the lead guitarist is hell, really great.”
Mitch: “On the Sunday afternoon before the last show we did a free concert on a flatbed truck in Golden Gate Park, really nice. I used Spencer Dryden of The Airplane's drums for the gig - thank you, Spencer.”
Noel: “I use a Fender bass amp for the first time. There could be no more dramatic contrast to life in Monkees Land than our last day in San Francisco, where we played a free show from the back of a sun-drenched lorry in Golden Gate Park. Thousands of most unusual and colourful people danced in the open air and they inspired us to play a really strenuous set.” ๐๐พ JHE played other two shows that evening at the Fillmore West.
